Blah

Mondays suck.

Shitty jobs suck even more. So do headaches.

You know what else sucks?

Mice that poop on my guitar case and shred my old photos for nesting material. But not to worry -- my cat is a fierce and mighty huntress who will track them down one by one.

Since I no longer have a guitar case (had to throw mine away - damn mice), my bass guitar now sits out in the open, begging me to play her. And I have. And you know what I've discovered?

I'm a shitty bass player.

Seriously. I couldn't even pass "Bass 101" at the Kim Deal School for Kids Who Can't Play Bass Good (and want to learn to do other stuff good too).

Say it ain't so-oo-oh-oo-oh!

At least I still remember how to play my favorite Weezer and Pixies songs. That's all that really matters.

Your bones got a little machine

It's been a musical evening. I started compiling a mix of my very favorite songs of all time. And you know what I've discovered? (Yes, two discoveries in one week - astounding, I know.)

I'm in love with way too many songs to put into one mix. I mean, where do I even begin? How do I choose some without leaving out others? Should I segregate by genre? By decade? By mood?

It's impossible.

I could put Stereolab on every mix I've ever made, except no one seems to like Stereolab besides me. I have 9 (yes nine) of their albums, I've seen them 3 times in concert, and I even own an obnoxious bright green Stereolab t-shirt.

Yeah... I'm a little bit of a fan.

I'm so full of ideas, and here's a good one!

I think when I finally start dating again, there will be screening questions about music. He must like Stereolab. Or at least accept my liking of Stereolab.

Or in more general terms, he shouldn't want to gouge his own eyes out and/or threaten me with physical violence when I play any of the following:

Bjork, Pixies, Weezer, Missy Elliott, Beastie Boys, Muse, MCR, The Polyphonic Spree, King Crimson, Rush, Talking Heads, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Dresden Dolls, Eisley, Portishead... my list could go on and on.

I don't think it's too much to ask. Do you?

Of course not.

My head still hurts. I think it's time for this music nerd to crawl into bed. But before I do, here's a night/sleep/dream themed lyrical montage, just for fun.

Name that tune and artist!

Us kids know
No cars go
Between the click of the light and the start of the dream

I woke the dawn
Saw horses growing out the lawn

I followed a rabbit
Through rows of mermaid entwined shrubbery

I jumped in the river, what did I see?
Black eyed angels swam with me

Wish I knew what you were looking for
Might have known what you would find

Only in dreams
You'll see what it means

When, when was the night so long?
Like the notes I'm sending

Come to me again in the cold, cold night

Glow, glow, melt and flow
Eviscerate your fragile frame
And spill it out on the ragged floor

So shut your eyes
Kiss my goodbye
And sleep

Just sleep

Good night and pleasant dreams to all.
