First off, can I just say how much I love Rivers Cuomo? Seriously, the guy's my frickin' hero.
Weezer is hosting a hootenanny. Several of them, actually - they're traveling to a few different cites, and inviting a whole bunch of people to come and play with them in a great big jam session. It will be recorded for radio play.
How cool is this? Who doesn't want to play music with one of their favorite bands?
The whole idea of a hootenanny... what band invites their fans to play along with them?
When I saw Green Day a few years back, they brought a couple fans up on stage to play their instruments. That was pretty kick ass. But it was only 3 people. Weezer is inviting a whole bunch of people, and everyone will play together. This is the most awesome idea ever! This is why I love Weezer.
I absolutely must be part of this, but I haven't found out how. weezer.com says they'll be in Portland, OR on Thursday 6/19, but none of the Portland radio stations have any information yet. I'm carefully watching and waiting.
I already dusted off my bass guitar and started brushing up on my Weezer tunes. But if I actually get to do this, I don't know if I'll take my bass or just sing. I'm a much better singer than bass player.
Anyway... I hope it happens, and I hope I get in. So cool!
